Saturday August 3, 2002; 9:51 p.m. EDT Gray Davis in College Student Shakedown? California Gov. Gray Davis, who's already notorious for his aggressive fundraising, has even some Democrats crying foul with his latest tactic: charging cash-strapped California public university students for face-to-face meetings. "He was asking kids who went to school up at Berkeley to give him $100 bucks to meet with him," reported WABC Radio's Paul Alexander Friday night. "When you're shaking down kids who go to school at Berkeley, I mean - really." "What is Gray Davis doing at Berkeley?" wondered WABC cohost John Batchelor. "He was shaking down the kids," Alexander reiterated. "I mean, they could meet with the governor but they had to give him $100." Fox News Channel's Gita Amar confirmed the Davis student shakedown, telling the radio duo, "You're right.... My sister went to Berkeley and I can tell you, that $100 doesn't go to political campaigns. That goes to the homeless. That's what kids do up there." "They're shameless. Paul is absolutely right. They're shaking down college students for money," she added. The Fox News producer described other recent Davis fundraising shenanigans. "When he went to go meet with the prison guards, he asked them for a contribution of ($250,000)," Amar revealed. "And when he met with the California Teachers Association on Valentine's Day he asked them for a million dollars." Amar shared another tidbit that has yet to garner much attention back East. "You know what Davis' approval rating is? 30 percent in the latest L.A. Times poll," she told Batchelor and Alexander. Read more on this subject in related Hot Topics:
Good Grief! A new college textbook can cost nearly $100.00 these days. Why the Hell would you want to spend your money on anything else?
If these idiots at Berkeley want to give Davis $100.00 to meet face to face with a one-term govenor, more power to 'em.
Hmmm? "Dear Governor Dim. I cannot meet with you today or any day in the near future, and so cannot see my way to pay you $100. However, if I did meet with you, I'd use the whole meeting for telling you what a dork you are. You are getting off all too easy. Find enclosed my bill for $100 for not showing up and yelling at you."
