Despite all the carping here, it looks like the Simon strategy targeting Hispanic voters is working better than many of us suspected. Remember, Bush got a bit over 30% of Hispanic votes in the Presidential election. Simon is going to get about 40%, if the Simon percentage corresponds with 100% - (52% for Davis + 8% undecided). This is a substantial increase, and 48% of a targeted group not voting for Davis is bound to give him ulcers. This is key. We have a natural constituency with Hispanics that we have ignored because the activist Hispanics are a bunch of liberals.
The fact is, conservative Republican principles resonate with Hispanic citizens, particularly parents who want their children to learn English, go to college, get a good job, and raise a family. Parents who don't want their kids to be taken behind their backs for abortions or birth control or be taught that homosexuality is normal.
Wait ... sounds that the average white conservative family! Well, well, well ... maybe we have more in common than we think.
Go Simon!

I agree. The thing is, they're probably just as American as we are.

Someone once compared George W. Bush to this guy. I'm beginning to think that this may be a closer comparison than some might think.
