"It's like my girlfriend says," said Will Chin, a San Francisco firefighter, "even if you don't see it, it's hard times now." Increased security in The City for the 4th of July weekend, economic pressures, heightened awareness. Heightened awareness in Sacramento at the California Assembly too. Maverick Democrat Dean Florez, was removed from a legislative committee that investigated the Davis administration's computer software contract with Oracle Corporation. Florez was about to hold hearings on Davis' management of veterans affairs, a move he and Republican lawmakers said Democrats wanted to block to protect the governor and his re-election campaign.
Democrat Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson removed Florez for fear of additional Davis embarrassment on the veteran front, an issue Bill Simon has been pursuing of late. Yes, hard times for Davis call for hard moves to manipulate the outcomes. California GOP spokesman Rob Stutzman said, "What´s plainly obvious to a public observer is that the chairman of the committee that investigated the Oracle scandal has been booted for taking on the governor."
Florez said he was discharged to prevent a series of hearings to audit the state´s Department of Veterans Affairs, guaranteed to expose gross neglect in the administration-run agency. "Everyone knows (Veterans Affairs) is a mess," Florez said. "It's Sacramento's dirty little secret."
That's nothing Dean, let's cover the real dirty secrets shall we?
Here is a short list of important issues affecting our pocketbooks, safety and sanity now "off the table" in the California governors race:
- 25% of the state´s prison population are illegal immigrants.
- Fiscal pressure on taxpayers to cover the still unknown shortfall in state revenues caused by millions of illegals who do not pay for services or file state taxes.
- 8.7 million students in California K-12 schools exposed to an unending stream of homosexual equivalency programming brought about by the Davis-endorsed "California Student Safety and Violence Prevention Act of 2000." No one has ever disclosed the actual numbers of lesbian, gay, transgender, or bi-sexual students who are now "safer" as beneficiaries of this law, but we know this: California ranks 47th out of 50 states in academic proficiency. So where are the priorities?
- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is trying to bypass public hearings on its moves to retain a "temporary" energy surcharge approved last year. It has proposed funneling billions of dollars from future energy purchases into bankrupt PG&E coffers to pay off debts to Enron and other electricity providers with whom Davis signed burdensome contracts. Your electric bill is about to soar and you´ll never see it coming.
- In March, 2000, 4.6 million Californians (a 61% margin) voted for Proposition 22, declaring that marriage is between a man and a woman. Prop 22 passed in 52 of 58 counties. In arrogant contravention of a clear majority, Davis has announced that he is creating a task force to advise him on how to bring Vermont-style homosexual "civil unions" to California. Were there any Democrats in Democrat-dominated Sacramento who voted in favor of the measure? Talk about a machine!
- If you own an SUV or minivan, you are responsible for about 40 % of greenhouse gas pollution in California, according to findings cited in AB 1493. Get ready for a DOUBLING of vehicle licensing fees. Haven´t heard of AB1493? Neither has 99% of California. This is one of many desperate money grabs now circulating in Sacramento, designed to deal with the $23.6 billion deficit, and bail Gray Davis out from serial mismanagement.
- Gray Davis is Catholic (haven´t heard that secret either huh?). On December 24, 1998, Rabbi Brad L. Bloom (Sacramento) invited Monsignor Edward Kavanagh, St. Rose Catholic Church (Sacramento) to an Ecumenical Service on Sunday, January 3, 1999, for then Governor-elect Gray Davis and his wife. Kavanagh replied to Bloom on December 30th.
In the letter, Monsignor Kavanagh rebuked Gray Davis for publicly promoting abortion, saying, "Gray Davis is an outspoken, militant champion of violence -- the most cold-blooded violence of killing preborn and partially born human beings."
"I must ask you to reconsider your role in promoting Gray Davis's political inaugural event and to immediately send out a letter of regret to all the Catholic priests and pastors whom you have invited and encouraged to attend this travesty."
- Heavily armed Mexican soldiers and police are crossing the U.S./Mexico border repeatedly, providing cover for drug smugglers. Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo visited the Mexico border area in late April and learned that U.S. Border Patrol agents report drug running activities of Mexican military officers. As well, a recent ACLU lawsuit alleging racial profiling by the CHP has interrupted vehicle searches during which narcotics have been found and seized. We may know NAFTA means the North American Free Trafficking Agreement, but try finding a California newspaper that will make it an issue.
- There is no paper trail on anything Gray Davis does. Have you ever read a story that included "a Davis memo said ?" Why? Because there are no memos written to the governor of California. Anything he reads is written to "File." If a memo is addressed to Davis, it is returned to its sender. This has been going on for years. There is no paper trail on anything, and Davis does not use e-mail.
Budget squabbles in Sacramento, hearings, feedback on 30-second spots, volleys launched from either the Davis or Simon camps. That´s the acceptable, "on the table" news, fit for print. What you won´t read about are the real issues impacting this state. And as they say, "your mind can be your best friend, or your worst enemy." We could use some friends out here in California.
Interesting little tidbit. Otherwise, hard hitting article....
Wonder if the "shredder" ever meets the "file"!

This is reminiscent of when Clinton downgraded the White House phone system to only trace calls to the switch, instead of the exact extension that the existing system was tracking. After Clinton's "improvement," you could only tell which wing the call came from, not which phone.
