Also true as to preaching to the choir. But they will vote. As to Hugh's audience, I don't know the numbers. As to the LA Times, do bear in mind that while its readership is large (I believe a circulation of 1.2 million or so) but falling and by no means the only source of news for many.
Perhaps more importantly, what I also do know is that Grayout is detested by many in his own party and is, for an incumbent, in a world of hurt. His negatives are very bad for an incumbent and conventional wisdom has it that it is very difficult to reverse those numbers. Hence, the recent attack ads on Simon. Meanwhile, Simon is trying to educate Hispanics via Spanish media (and W and Giuliani will be back too) and otherwise letting Grayout get bad press, as I cannot think of a single article of recent that was good press.
