[history]
In his first television ad attacking his Republican challenger, Gov. Gray Davis on Monday accused Bill Simon Jr. of mismanaging a savings and loan at a cost of millions of dollars to taxpayers.
The spot seeks to raise doubts about Simon's job qualifications before the little-known GOP nominee introduces himself to voters on his own terms.
"Bill Simon: If he can't run an S&L, how can he run California?" a narrator asks. The ad refers to Western Federal Savings and Loan, a Marina del Rey thrift seized by the government in 1993. Simon was on its board of directors.

Gray Davis is a piece of work.

If I were Simon, I would just say, "Hey, we made the mistake of using Oracle software, Gov. Davis's favorite contributor."

The question is it's been awhile since the primary, and Simon (at least according to this article) has not 'introduced himself' to the voters yet. He needs to be out there first...now to pre-empt the attacks. Has been effective at getting his message out, or is sitting back waiting for the 'election season'

Davis is scum. Davis is THE MOST EVIL POLITICIAN IN THE UNIVERSE. Sorry, I get enthused about trashing the Gray Eminence. Mr. Characterless. Honest to God, when people get to know him they will realize he makes Clinton look like Mother Teresa. A lying snake. And what is really scarey is he has the biggest campaign warchest of any politician in history. He may even run for President, God help the nation. I'd vote for Castro before I'd vote for Gray Davis.
Did I tell ya I don't like the guy ;')

The rebuttal: Davis' gross mismanagement of the poorly-designed CA electric pool will cost billions, and thereatens the solvency of the state.

Liberals are always trying to tell conservative candidates what they are doing wrong. I wonder why?

Yup. Its bad enough Simon swung left on oil drilling off the California coast. Any more wobble and the Davis reelection juggernaut will claim him as its roadkill.

Get all your friends in California to vote for Simon. I'm working on one of my friends, and maybe two of them. Come on, we can WIN THIS by talking to others leaning away from Dems and towards Simon!!
