It's high time that we do away with the Fed and their international crooks - the Fed is un-Constitutional, and they sway political decisions without representing the people. However, they also have all of America's gold reserve and word has it that it has been spirited out of the country. The tiny pittance of gold that exists in Ft Knox these days is not America's reserve - it is low quality from electrical scrap.
Instead of making gold the money standard, they should choose a material that America has plenty of - and the rest of the world has little. How about Plutonium? That would make America and Russia the most wealthy nations on Earth.

It is well enough that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. -- Henry Ford
Always found this quote from one of our leading capitalists interesting.

"...trust in the dollar is being lost." The only backing the dollar has anymore is Greenspan's jawboning and the rest of the world's blind faith that America knows what it's doing.

Oh jeez, you mean those Art Bell and Michael Savage are right to push gold?

The constitutional mandate for Congress should only permit silver and gold to be used as legal tender and has been ignored for decades and has caused much economic pain for many innocent Americans. If Dr. Paul is going to talk about constitutional mandates, then he needs to cite the Constitution correctly. The specific clause in the Constitution is that no state (be it New Jersey, Texas, Confusion, or Hysteria) shall make anything but gold and silver coin legal tender for paying their debts. This does not restrict Congress.

If this is implemented and the U.S. goes back to using real money, then our lifestyles as Americans would radically change. The money supply would become very tight, and Americans would be forced to end our love affair with the credit cards. America would have to ditch the Federal Reserve System with it's worthless "fiat currency." Government would be forced to live within it's means, and rein in spending, or else the government would devalue it's own currency.
A return to the Gold Standard might be the best thing that happened to American in a long time!
