Probe: Testimony comes on first day of hearings on deal, approved with little study, no bidding.
Cynthia Curry, a top attorney for the Department of General Services, one of the state agencies that approved the deal, told lawmakers that she was given the full Oracle contract to review the day it was signed, and was so concerned about it that she went over the head of her boss to complain.

ORACLE SLASHES SOFTWARE PRICE - June 22, 2001
"Oracle has cut the price of its database software by nearly 50 percent, dramatically changing a price formula put into place nearly two years ago that saw prices increase as a customer's hardware became more powerful. It will now cost $40,000 per processor to license Oracle's new database upgrade, called "9i," according to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Ellison says that will put the price under database management software from competitors, a fact that is disputed by Oracle's major challengers, IBM and Microsoft."
Didn't the California contract get agreed to in May? I bet we taxpayers got 'the shaft' more than we got a deal. The governor got 'the deal'.
The article 'linked' above might indicate the 'why'. California got the 'discount' from the old price, not knowing that if they waited, they would get the even lower 'new' price.
Note to Governor---When the 'SALE' ends today, it usually means that tomorrow starts a 'new' and often 'better' one.
How 'dumb' are the DOOFI we have in Sacramento? The 'campaign contribution' was the 'deal closer'. Government has a sad lack of business acumen. 'Buy High, Sell Low'. If there is no hope for a 'smarter' government, we had better make sure that it gets a whole lot smaller.
Yep, May 31, 2001. But allegedly, we got the software at half off because of the quantity ... but I guess it wouldn't have mattered, because we could have bought it off the shelf three weeks later at the same price.
That's what Davis did to us when he panicked during the energy crunch ... and we're going to be paying for it for years ...
Yeah, but you get the chance to shaft the guv in November.
