The headlines about California's misguided Oracle deal have had a familiar ring: For at least the sixth time in a decade, leaders of the state that gave birth to the high-tech revolution have flubbed an expensive technology project.

But the story of this debacle emerging in the wake of a Mercury News investigation and a state audit is not just another tale of how poor oversight led California to invest millions of dollars in unneeded or unworkable technology.

Hmmm. Maybe it's time for a new artwork. My earlier ones stressed that the governor was a blowhard and a radical, but not corrupt. I'll have to see what I can come up with. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
