Davis at it again

Gov. Gray Davis' fiscal mismanagement and pandering to special-interest groups continues to cost state taxpayers billions of dollars in unnecessary expenses. No wonder he wants to keep the governor's race focused on secondary issues such as abortion and on GOP candidate Bill Simon's tax returns.

Blacks, Chinese, Mexican. We've already paid reparations to Japanese Americans. If I were a Pacific Islander, I'd feel left out.

Reparations could also launch a new era of racial and ethnic divisiveness.

This is what keeps people like Jesse Jackson in bidness.

A free-spending Davis helped turn a $13 billion surplus into a $22 billion projected deficit in about two years.

Well this is an out and out lie! Everyone knows that only Democraps care about preserving deficits! It must be caused by evil Republicans that are causing this!!

No one needs reminding about the electricity crisis, and the overpriced long-term contracts that a panicked Davis signed and is now desperately trying to renegotiate. A free-spending Davis helped turn a $13 billion surplus into a $22 billion projected deficit in about two years.

here is that 22 billion dollar figure again.

Someone know where it came from?

Too often, the governor has done what is politically expedient at the expense of what is fiscally prudent.

The $22 billion came from a projected $17 billion and "possible" $22 billion based on poor April tax returns (more refunds, less payments). Everyone has pretty much agreed that it will be "at least" $20 billion and "as high as" $22 billion. We'll just have to wait and see!

My guess is that by the time it's all done it will be closer to $30 billion.

I thought it might have come from Jones or O'Connell offices but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

I was ten years old, but I still remember the editorial cartoon in the Chronicle of Reagan looking into the State treasury and finding it empty. He raised taxes and rebated them when the State was sound again.

$22 Billion? That's larger than the Federal deficit this year, isn't it?

For those interested in what the legislature is hearing from "Legislative Analyst's Office":

Reorganizing California's Energy-Related Activities

This was dated 2/20/2002 I believe.

Here is a reference to the $17 billion deficit in March(before the April tax shortfall calculated additional $4.5 billion).

This from the California Faculty Association(CFA) Assembly--

Of what use the governor???(Their words, my title)

"3. While Gray Davis was still the Lieutenant Governor, I attended his luncheon address to the CFA Assembly. During his presentation, he made it very clear that he supported merit increases. In spite of this position, the CFA endorsed him for Governor and made contributions to his campaign! Some CFA and CTA leaders supported Gray Davis in the primary election for Governor so early in his campaign that Gray Davis was fourth in the public opinion polls behind 3 other Democrats. Today, can you name any other Democratic or Republican opponent who would have made electricity blunders costing the State of California billions of dollars? Today, can you name any other Democratic or Republican opponent who would have permitted the CSU faculty to work without a new contract since July 2001? Today, can you name any other Democratic or Republican opponent who would replace full-time faculty with a majority of temporary faculty? Amazingly, some of the current CFA statewide leaders have endorsed the re-election of Governor Gray Davis. The latest estimate of the budget deficit is $17 billion. How large must this deficit become until you admit that Governor Gray Davis has been a disaster for the State of California and for the CFA?"

Potential Simon supporters???
