The shortfall is now $20 billion as tax receipts trail estimates. Anemic income tax receipts reflected in this month's returns will push the state an additional $4.5 billion into the budget hole, officials say, leaving the Legislature and Gov. Gray Davis with a shortfall of $20 billion or more.

GRAY-out!!!

"Meanwhile, Davis is using taxpayers money at the rate of $45 million a day to buy electricity to bail out the giant utilities."

From the American Indepent Party chronology.

Sorry about that!

Makes you wonder where it will all end, doesn't it? It's scary.

Davis looks at the "45" and thinks, "Wow, that's not that big a number, is it?"

And you've hit on what should be our next crusade here in Nueva California: the elimination of the state income tax.

One way to make sure they can't cause trouble is to take away their toys. I'd love to see Gray Davis's face the day that a "no state income tax" initiative passes! But he should be gone by then...

For the moment, Mr. Simon is proposing to index the homeowner's property tax exemption here in CA which is still stuck at the 1972 level. For the average homeowner, this would take the exemption from $7000 to about $60000, which would instantly lop about $700 off the average homeowner's tax. But first he get's to solve the budget deficit by having to swing the axe...it's always like that in the wake of the spendthrifts, isn't it?

Rat Davis faces cutting budget by 16% right before election?

Fat chance of any Rat cutting a budget. IMHO, he's toast.

Davis is an example of a leader who is not only dishonest, he is simply dysfunctional and delusional. There was a 20 billion dollars surplus, it's gone and now there is a huge deficit. What does Davis want to do? He wants to borrow more money via a bond measure to shovel at the "homeless." (On KMJ radio yesterday a caller gave them a different name, he called them "campers.")

Cooler summer forecast for the Left Coast this summer

Maybe that will be offset by a surging economy? Gotta hope.
