[history]
Steve Frank, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon's deputy political director, holds a key job in the effort to return the party to California's top office.
But some Republicans, both moderate and conservative, fear that Simon's association with people like Frank, and with the issues he represents, could cost the party the election.

Frank, 47, is an anti-abortion activist who once raffled off a shotgun in a Georgia congressional race to boost turnout among opponents of gun control. THE HORROR! </sarcasm>

Sounds like my kinda guy, except for this:
And from 1992 through 1994, state records show, Frank worked as Sacramento advocate for an affiliate of the Church of Scientology, the applied religious philosophy founded by former science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard.

"We don't want a seat at the table. We want the table. " Tables cost money. The Federation has organization but little money. Candidates would rather take monetary contributions and use the money to create their own paid organization than to rely upon the fickle Federation organization.
Federation members are occassionally given a seat at the table only because some big contributor paid for more seats than he needed.

Beware of those who are doing the labeling. Could well be another example of liberalism trying to masquerade as moderation. Have never before heard of the Scientology link, but I've known Steve Frank to be a reasonable, open-minded person.

Well, this is from the San Francisco Gayronicle!!
I think that is what the guys up north call it!

It is an attack piece , probably has the Hired hands of Gray Davis behind it!

Frank is just doing his job. The divisiveness, the complaints, the whining to the press, is coming from the usual suspects: the Log Cabin Republicans, the pro-aborts, the big-tent country-clubbers. They are ALWAYS the ones who bring these arguments to the liberal press. They are always the ones who start the trouble. They are right about one thing: a food-fight among Republicans won't help Simon's chances of beating Davis. But they are the ones who started the food-fight and no doubt will try to keep it going until they get their way.
These RINOs had better learn that they may have money and power, and they may want their abortions and perversions, but without appealing to the conservative base no Republican can win California. Pete Wilson proved that point.

This piece could be written about any Republican campaign in the country. It's just another way of saying that there is a vocal, cranky, minority of liberal pro-aborts in the CAGOP.
This Bob Larkin guy has been whining and complaing and causing trouble for half a dozen years now. There is nothing new here. Steve Frank is on the Republican mainstream side of an ongoing battle, and the other creeps are on the other side which the press will report on and report on until the cows come home.

I recently had to laugh at a statement made on a show I was watching. It was on VH1, they were talking about music sensorship. A guy made a statement that he was glad to see there were people more conservative than his group. The group he refered to as more conservative was one headed by Tipper Gore and other Democrat women. Cracked me up. Naturally, because they wanted more sensorship than he did, they were conservative.
FYI: This is what the San Francisco Chronicle would call main stream:

"He can't even relate to normal conservative Republicans, which I consider myself," she said. ". . . I'll tell you very sincerely that there are a ton of us who will not support Simon because of Steve Frank." I Steve Frank running for governor, or Bill Simon?
To: ABG(anybody but Gore)
Steve Frank used to contact me to post articles here on the NFRA (National Federation of Republican Assemblies) -- Personally I was glad to see him join the Simon team when he left office with the NFRA ... I was already an affirmed Simon Supporter before that!
To: Pokey78, Stonecoldgop, gophack
The fact that Simon has named a conservative stalwart and former NFRA director like Steve Frank to be his deputy political director is the best evidence yet that Simon is willing to chart a conservative course and energize his base to get elected.

Frank is "anti-abortion, anti-gun control, for (school) vouchers -- the real hard-line, right-wing slate...Sounds like a decent guy. You know, conservative.
