WASHINGTON -- As President Bush comes under growing international pressure to rein in Israel's military offensive against Palestinians, he faces countervailing pressure from an overwhelmingly pro-Israeli Congress where some members are pushing for new statements of support for the country.-snip- The bipartisan support for Israel was driven home last week when House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Texas)--viewed by many as the leader of the party's conservative wing in Congress--gave a speech denouncing Arafat as "completely untrustworthy." DeLay called on the Bush administration to throw its weight behind Israel's campaign to "dismantle the Palestinian leadership."

It seems like Dubbya is running a race he can't win.
As much as he tries to present a "Workable" image of Gulf Arab states..the seedy photo's keep dropping on Media and members of the Hills desks.
Islam is trying to portray Israel as Tyrant..and Bush is trying to seperate terrorism from Islam so that he can pacify them..but it is failing miserably.
Dubbya is young..I believe the "Older Wise ones" will help him thru this mess.
Cheney ,Rumsfeld..they have been around..have connections via oil to get the point accross.
Members on the Hill want to help Dubbya..but they need him to make a policy by which they can stand and give account to their peers.
I believe the Arabs on the whole have taken advantage of Dubbya ..exploiting his nicer side..and his youth.
After Mrs Powell returns from Her dancing....things will probably get sorted out rather quick.

"It is absolutely incredible how he is squandering his moral authority for the sake of Islamic terrorists and the regimes that support them (Saudi Arabia, his father's friends).".................I suspect big business is pulling the strings. THEY don't want us involved in war cause its bad for business. We the people also have to be prepared for the oil embargo that is certain to follow if we openly support Israel in wiping out the PA. I'm willing, but how many are? THAT's the question.

This may very well be the reason why Sharon is acting the way he does. He knows Israel must now act alone because its interests are suddenly disjointed from the US.

So your solution is for the US to just abandon the Mideast oil-producing region altogether on account of little Israel?

Absolutely not. We're the consumers. We sit in the catbird seat. We have the money. To get our money, the Saudis, et al, need to sell it to us.

Abandoning Israel wouldn't affect the supply of oil to us one bit. So why do something that would hurt us diplomatically in the long run?

What about Europe and Japan who get most of their oil from the Mideast? If their economies go down, ours goes down with them. We live in an age of economic globalization.

Thank you for making my point for me in that last sentance.

Don't be a Chicken Little. The Persian Gulf states HAVE to sell. Cash flow must be maintained, lest these governments start going belly up. These nations do not have the political stability that the Eurotrash, Japan, and ourselves do. Geez, even Mexico is far more stable than the Gulf states.

For instance, Japan is the largest holder of US Treasury bonds, so if their economy tanked and they had to raise cash, it'd bring ours down with them.

Not gonna happen, for the reason that you outlined above. Besides, Japan has a strictly neutralist, if not mercantilist, pro-Arab stance in its foreign policy. And don't get me started on the Eurotrash. Hell, they'd open up Auschwitz again just to please the Arabs.

Secondly, America doesn't want to abandon the oil-rich Mideast, which contains two-thirds of proven global oil reserves, or any other oil-rich region to China, who'll be needing a lot more oil in the future.

Again, who says we have to abandon the oil patch to anybody? It's not our territory, you know, and we shouldn't treat it as such. But when they threaten us, we should act accordingly, as we will in the case of Saddam. Personally, I prefer that we deal with Saddam and then pull out of that briar patch. It's not like the Arabs wouldn't sell to us, you know.

You can't look at US foreign policy in terms of Israel alone. Thirdly, Russia has a lot of oil, but experts predict it only has about 40 years worth of oil left, so it can't really replace the Mideast as some wishfully believe.

No one is talking about looking at U.S. foreign policy in terms of Israel alone. But the thugs who run most of the Arab states will be observing closely just how much we stand by Israel. They will want to see how we treat our friends.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

So, we'll be facing many more Saddams? Good. It's nice to know the faces of your enemies. Gives us clear targets to go after and eradicate them all. You can serve up your billions of Islamic fundamentalists that you say will be created. Hope they all collect in one place to make it easier for us to wipe them all out in one fell swoop. Hahahahahahahahaha. And we've got the power to do it. The Islamic fundie's don't, but we do.

GW is trying to play both sides of the fence and it is quite telling.

Just like Clinton, makes one sick. How did he start so well and throw away victory ? Absolutely stunning. He and his synchophants don't even realize it yet, but they soon will.
