Mexico either does not allow ownership of firearms, or whatever system it has for allowing them is highly corrupt and restrictive. A border totally open from our side would allow Islamic terrorists an easy way to get in (I know, that is almost not related to the general subject of firearms) and a border totally open from the Mexican side would allow gun dealers to more easily import weapons to people in Mexico who would like to rebel. The United States does not want to make it easier at this time for terrorists to enter, and Mexico probably does not want to make it easier for the dirt poor oppressed people [on their side] to get their hands on guns.

It is wrong not to share the wealth America has.

I'm not accusing you of actually being one, but that statement of yours is Marxist at its core. Maybe you meant that it's wrong to deny people from the opportunity to create wealth instead of "sharing" it.

I had thought that way until September 11,2002. Now I understand there might be some folks that want to kill me. The USA is the land of opportunity...to walk in and kill Americans. The constitution is not a suicide pact. Believe me I am a registered Liberterian and I will probably switch to the GOp after seeing the nonsense the liberterians have been spouting. I am all for Racial profiling and giving big guns to airline pilots...yes big ass guns like a casull 454. I say we shut off our border with mexico on May 5th.

Sir; Are you stupid or what. I was almost killed by an illegal. And why should we give amisty[sorry about the spelling] to those who broke our laws. What about all those who are trying to come here the right way, by following the law? Just rember when all is said and done all is left is just the rule of law. What we need to do is put a bounty on the head of every illegal alien and let the public deal with it. If the Fereral Goverment can't or WON'T deal with this problem, then we [the citzens of this country] will deal with this diaster in the making!! Respectfully Mike Suchman PATRIOT!!!

In case you didn't know, we had some immigrants (illegal or legal?) come into this country and crash two commercial jets into the world trade center... in the aftermath of that we are promised more attacks of a similar type by citizens of who knows what other countries. Just in case you missed it.

"It is wrong not to share the wealth America has."

I will if you will. You first.

Oh, forgot to ask...how many immigrants are currently staying with you? What? None? That's hardly doing your part. If it's because of your region, I'm sure we could spare a few hundred thousand from Southern California that would appreciate your hospitality. "Viva Amexico!" says pauly.

Good old fashioned Marxism. Take it all and spread it around.

A country without borders is no country at all. Close the borders and shoot to kill.

Paul, as I understand your post, you are essentially advocating that Mexico and Canada becom ports of legal entry into the US. Which means, as one poster so succinctly put it, that without borders, we would have no country. The world would pour in, and nobody would have anything. Mexico does not now allow Americans the freedom to come into their country, work and buy property and vote in their elections. If they did, Americans would soon turn beautiful Mexico into such a thriving economy that their citizens wouldn't want to leave. The answer to the world's problems is not to bring their socialism into this country but to allow our free enterprise into theirs. First and foremost of course is FREEDOM. Whithout which they will all remain third world havenots.

Open the US border? I never noticed that it was OR is closed! "Open borders" only lead to a nation's lack of idenity. The US is heading that way for the last 30 years! Take you openess elsewhere!

We became prosperous through free markets, respect for private property, and general freedom, in my not-so-humble opinion, not by wealth-sharing.

Paul,  I've avoided this for a day but since this
is still alive, here goes.    I would totally agree
with you except I would have to eliminate all
handouts by government and end taxation.
I would also want to cut the size of government
back to the days of President Jackson or at
least the size of just before President Roosevelt
(that's Teddy not Franklin).  I would like to
see the citizenship requirement changed to at
least ten years and preferably 15 to 20 years
residency.  Of course I would end the minimum
wage which forces other workers to remain
unemployed.  With no Socialist incentives to
draw the weak here I believe that only the true
lovers of freedom would come.  That was the
dream that our ancestors had that simply
opening the borders alone now could not
duplicate.  With true economic freedom thus
encouraged I believe American business could
find new markets and growth in a supranational
prosperity.   The plus for us is the third world
could come along for the ride just as far as it
is willing to help with the fuel.
