The Washington Post reported today that President joked about signing the unconstitutional Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform bill passed by the Senate last week.
Bush, in a statement issued Wednesday night, had expressed misgivings about whether parts of the bill were constitutional but said that he would sign the bill anyway.
His decision to sign the bill has kicked up a firestorm of dissent in the conservative community, including a scathing editorial by The Washington Times and a letter from the American Conservative Union signed by 60 conservative leaders.

1) It's a bush "master stroke" that will save us all.
2) Other President's have done it and successfully slid it past the Supreme's. So, now the door is open and the oath of office and the Constitution are null and void.
3) Well, the Supreme's will veto the UnConstitutional parts.. Just like they did with the Brady Bill and the rest of the things in my list.

(Does that sound about right TF? That is your position, isn't it?)
No, they are paraphrased from quotes that came from the "Republican crap not stinketh." faction here on FR.
I am sure you recognized every one of them as they are repeated over and over every day.
I always look at the "whys"
And I have conculded that it's so The House, Senate and Dubya himself won't look "bad" in the media by defending our Constitution.
There you go. You don't like what I am saying and try to make yourself feel better by writing me off as someone who is incapable of saying anything good about Dubya.
I have said many good things about him actually, but it's getting harder and harder to do because he keeps selling us down the river. I voted for him in 2000, but it doesn't look like I will in 2004.
Not at this rate. You see, unlike you I don't think anyone "deserves" my vote. They have to earn it.
If McDonalds told you they deserve your money you would laugh at them. and then turn right around and scold others for not blindly supporting your guy.
I think I addressed your strawman in #163.
Item #2.
And if that's the best you can do, Bill Clinton would be pleased. Seems all his supporters could muster was "well, they do it too!"
I refused to accept it as an argument then and I refuse to accept it now. I make no distinction between shills.
I think we both know how accurate the spirit of those quotes is and how close to reality they are.
Dismiss them if you want, but you know they summarize the group think here perfectly.
I saw that lame attempt at an analogy on another thread it makes no more sense on this one that it did on the other. Now here is my position just so we are clear
I don't care if you vote for Bush or not and am not trying to change your mind
When I read the McConnell analysis earlier I stated that the bill is bad and that Bush should veto it
I like analysis and the possible reasons for why the Administration may be doing this but I am not projecting them onto Bush as his motives.
I believe in the framework the Founders put in place to handle the laws that we must obey or be protected from
I don't like people that cannot argue from facts and confuse debate with taking the most extreme position possible and then demanding that someone else prove them wrong
I also dont really care if Bush is re-elected or not. I will vote for him but we will survive if he is not.
Because he wants to trash the constitution
Do you know who started this thread?

Have you lost your mind? Not signing an UnConstitutional bill is "taking the most extreme position possible and then demanding that someone else prove them wrong"
Come on.. I can't believe you said that to me.
Look. I have said everything I think on the subject and I firmly believe I am right.
I think we are going to have to dissagree here.
I really believe this is an impasse, because I can't change my mind on this. It's the Constitution.
It's the First Amendment.
Look I post on FreeRepublic I don't see anywhere on the site that forces me to applaud every action or agree with it. You are doing exactly what you accuse the "Bushies" of doing which is if a higher authority says to do it then all the little freeple should step into line. I don't tell anyone what they should do. If you want to "freep" Have at it. For all the good it will do.
I am sure you do, just drop the "paraphrasing" which is just a tactic for making another's words to fit your agenda.
TLB that is infantile and just shows your lack of maturity.
No, I think they are 100% accurate.
So, I guess we will have to dissagree on that also.
As I said, don't let facts stand in your way. Yeah Bush is dishonest. LMAO
If you want to "freep" Have at it. For all the good it will do.
