The parallels between mating habits in species on this planet are well documented.
Sometimes, you'll watch some nature show on PBS and see the similarities in ritual courtship, same as humans....The males showing off, posing, flirting and even fighting each other to impress the females.
As for human females being more "choosey", that's common knowledge, but their motivations in this contemporary culture are usually just as superficial and shallow as a man's notion of an "ideal mate."
I don't fault a woman for wanting to attach herself to the first man who can provide her with the greatest degree of comfort and security....I think that's instinctive, but to suggest that her "discriminatory process" of choosing a mate is on a different plane from a man's similar self-centered ambitions is pure bunk.
There's not a woman alive who'd pass up on a coniving, manipulative, millionaire husband for a caring, sensitive, "regular Joe" type guy....Don't even go there.
Gee, do I detect a bit of bitterness there?:~)
It depends on the woman I guess. I know some that would drop a nice but quiet guy for a flashy bum. Personally I would not want some rich dude, to much work but I don't want a bum either. If he can't support me and the kids then I would have to look elsewhere.
