Let's see if you have any "historical context". What drove Reagan to push for his amnesty?
No he wasn't -- he made deals to get other things he wanted. I followed and did a many of college papers on reagan when he was president and he did go along with alot that many people here would be screaming about. I wrote a 20 page paper one time on him in 1988 or 1989 and I remember how supprised I was at all the deals he made that went against what he said in running for President. He backtracked on probably 30-40 issues to get his defense budgets approved. If you study what he said in the 1996 primaries he was a different man in 1984. He made alot of these deals with Tip O'Neil at an Irish pub a few blocks from the whitehouse. When they met at the Pub for a few drinks there was always a deal made and it wasn't well known until Tip started talking after he announced his retirement. At the time I didn't think this was bad at all since the Senate and House were both democrat but thinking about this compared to Bush I think Bush is giving the dems a few cookies and the rest of us a bag of cookies.
I prefer to be happy with the bag of cookies and let the dems have their cookies and when they bitch too much give them a cookie here and there. I the end we end up with a lot more cookies then they did !
