I remember people talking about Congressman Ford running for the senate. He's a Dem and is on FOX NEWS a lot. I hope he doesn't step up because he would probably win. I'm not too worried about Gramm, Helms, or Thurmond's seat but this one worries me. Frist is from Tennessee too so maybe he has someone in mind to step up to the plate.

I seriously doubt it. Ford comes from an overwhelmingly democrat district and had been too liberal for the state as a whole. He would lose a statewide election.

Congressman Ford's support stops at the Memphis City limits. He would not be a threat in a statewide election.

As a Tennessean, I can guarantee you and anyone else, that Ford wouldn't stand a chance of winning in Tennessee if he ran for the Senate. Ford would score big in the inner-cities of Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga, but that would only be about 20 % of the voting population. Ford would likely only garner vote support in the range of 35% to 40% and lose in a landslide.

This is a stupid question - but is Ford of mixed race? I see him on Fox a lot. Just curious.
