Me too, drc43, TN Republicans always seem to disappoint us, though there is a very good congressman from the Knoxville area named John Duncan, who seems principled and reliable. I did not know that Senator Thompson had lost a grown daughter. It does seem a little late for him to announce that he is stepping down. I presume that the Democrat Harold Ford, Jr., of Memphis will have the inside advantage to this seat. I imagine TN is ready to return to its liberal Democrat roots, a la Gore, Kefauver, Hull, Cooper, etc.

Frist disappointed you. We shut out Gore in his "homestate"...was that disappointing as well?....I wish they could all be DeLay's but there's only room for one "hammer"..LOL

I imagine TN is ready to return to its liberal Democrat roots, a la Gore, Kefauver, Hull, Cooper, etc. I have to diagree with you. I live just blocks from the capitol and work very closely with Tennessee politics on levels ranging from neighborhoods all the way to Washington. Tennessee has been trending more conservative and Republican over the last 10 years. No Democrat has won a statewide office since 1992.
