Couple Charged After 100 Pigs Found In Home
Animals Discovered Friday
POSTED: 11:59 a.m. EST March 6, 2002
MARSHALL, N.C. -- Health officials have filed animal cruelty charges against a North Carolina couple who had more than 100 pot-bellied pigs in their home.
Hugh and Karen Koontz were charged Tuesday with two misdemeanor counts.
The animals were discovered Friday when deputies went to evict the Koontzes from the house after it was sold in a foreclosure sale.
In addition to the pigs, authorities said there were about 20 dogs, two dozen cats and several chickens and ducks in the house. The floor of the house was matted with mud and animal droppings.
Karen Koontz said she had rescued animals for her Peaceable Kingdom Animal Sanctuary but became sick and was unable to care for them.
As she put it, "Things just get away from you."

ROTFL. Who'd a thunk?
You know what you have to do
