CAUSE OF GIRL'S DEATH COULD REMAIN MYSTERY

Police say they may never know how Danielle van Dam died, or when. The seven-year-old girl disappeared from her San Diego home February first. Authorities are now confirming that a child's body found by volunteer searchers Wednesday is that of the missing child. The district attorney says an autopsy performed confirmed her identity yesterday. The identification was made through dental records because of the condition of the body. Medical examiners are trying to determine the cause of death, but Police Chief Dave Bejerano says it's possible that we'll never know how, or when she was killed. A neighbor has been charged with kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities say they found the girl's blood on his clothing and in his motor home. He has pleaded innocent.

Post 568- I was under the impression from reading the UnionTrib and other articles that each of the parents noticed the alarm at different times. Once before she got home, once after she got home, and once when DVD woke up nearer to dawn. They only saw the alarm once?

Or Westerfield entered the house before the van Dams went to bed, hid in Danielle's closet (remember the police took away the doors for study) and completed his mission after the house was quiet.

During one of their searches, investigators confiscated pornography from Westerfield's home. They cannot determine whether girls in the photos are under 18.

Plus he didn't leave until the next morning. How did he know it would take until 9:00 am for the VDs to discover Danielle missing? What if LE had started scouring the neighborhood at 6:00 am? Pretty big risk taking on his part, IMO.

I'd love to know if the motorhome was gone on the night of the abduction. The theory I'm working with right now has Westerfield abducting Danielle, killing her and disposing of the body within hours of taking her from her home. Then he left in the motorhome in the morning for his desert trip.
