CAUSE OF GIRL'S DEATH COULD REMAIN MYSTERY

Police say they may never know how Danielle van Dam died, or when. The seven-year-old girl disappeared from her San Diego home February first. Authorities are now confirming that a child's body found by volunteer searchers Wednesday is that of the missing child. The district attorney says an autopsy performed confirmed her identity yesterday. The identification was made through dental records because of the condition of the body. Medical examiners are trying to determine the cause of death, but Police Chief Dave Bejerano says it's possible that we'll never know how, or when she was killed. A neighbor has been charged with kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities say they found the girl's blood on his clothing and in his motor home. He has pleaded innocent.

Plus he didn't leave until the next morning. How did he know it would take until 9:00 am for the VDs to discover Danielle missing? What if LE had started scouring the neighborhood at 6:00 am? Pretty big risk taking on his part, IMO.

Westerfield's stated time of departure could also be a ruse; perhaps he used his other vehicle (Toyota SUV) to discard the body and returned home within two or three hours. It appears that no witnesses have come forward to corroborate the times of Westerfield's departures and arrivals or perhaps there are sealed deposition of such interviews.

There is also the matter of Westerfield carrying Danielle from the van Dam house to either his house or a vehicle. Was she in a sack, or what?

You know, under 99% of circumstances I'd be the first one to be outraged at the idea of a "guilty looking" person being framed. I'd give it the OJ ha-ha.

But this case feels different than most. Since we must all acknowledge that framing has happened and quite successfully so, this case looks as much like a possibility as any.

That's true, but there has been no report of DNA, blood or anything from the other vehicle. Everything seems to center around the RV only.

Unfortunately, thanks to our dear friends in the LAPD, the term framing has almost become synonymous with bad cops.

The framing I am referring to is the type where the perpetrator actually "throws off" the investigation by framing a culpable, but unsuspecting victim.

The said victim doesn't even have to be an angel. Perhaps a victim with DSM-IV type flaws could actually be convicted in a court of public opinion.

For instance the entire world is screaming for the death penalty for DW. I agree there should be a death penalty in this case, but we had be darned sure we've got the right person.

For now, there are just too many possible doubts.
