This diagram is grossly simplified to the point of perverting Descartes, Berkeley, and Kant.

When you say reason is a process what does that mean? Do you mean that reason is a process as opposed to say, a tool?

Kant asked the question in the first critique: Can their be synthetic judgements apriori? (Can we know anything about the world prior to our experience of it?) His answer is yes, and then he goes forward to explain the structure and limits of reason in the world. The entire book is a proof about the conditions of knowledge. To claim that he has little regard for reason is a terrible understatement.

Mill wrote a book called "On Liberty." You should read it, it is a nice book and I think you would be pleased with the results. ;^)

Could you describe Mill? I thought he was a bad guy, but goodness, a lot have him near the top.

No, no - Mill's not so bad. Him I can live with, but Sartre?

Anyway, here's a decent introduction to J.S. Mill and his philosophy.

Oh good, I'm glad you're not in the middle of a discussion. Who is Mill?

I seem to recall reading about him in a book by Bork and how Mill started the modern liberal movement. Maybe I am wrong....I don't understand why folks here have so many Mills....unless they are Libertarian.

Rand, but I've known that since high school and my first introduction to her literature.

Perhaps that left neo-liberal stuff you're all getting indicates that you're all neo-cons.

Or, perhaps it just indicates that the test makes no sense :)

Many of the questions are bizarrely complex and almost un-answerable.

A Buchananite like myself scored "American Conservative" in the first slot.

One thing that may contribute to how nonsensical the test appears to many of us is the fact that it clearly was not written by an American.

And nationalism is cool!

That, at least, was one of the more straightforward and answerable questions. I answered "I agree" to that one :)

Still got "Clinton" as my political match though. Makes ya wonder, huh? :)

I must confess that I have never studied philosophy, but it sure seems like you have. Maybe you can tell me if this makes sense, based on the little snippets at the test's site I came up with: compassionate libertarian. Or does it seem like I am seeing what I want?

Go back and play with the test a bit. You will see that the auhor equates nindividualism with liberalism.

Go figure!
