It just shocks me how anyone could go along with honoring Jane Fonda for anything.Traitors to America should be delt with , I am sure they have room for her with the terrorits that are detained right now !!She could bunk next to Walker till her sentence is carried out.
Tennessee_Bob, I had never heard this story before and as I said at the top of my post it was sent to me from a friend.
I agree with your post about it T'wit. Thank you for your comment.
Tennessee_Bob, thank you too for the links about it and I will go to them as well and read about it.
Thank you for your post.
When this was broadcast on the nightly news I was studying in the dorm lounge (Uncle Sam was footing the bill and I was an honor student in pre-med). The usual lefties were gathered for their nightly bashing of America. I was studying for a Bio-chem exam. I watched in disbelief as this daughter of a great American, Henry Fonda, was interviewing the POWs at the Hanoi Hilton. The lefties in the lounge were laughing and praising Fonda for her "Power to the People" stand with my sworn enemy. I gathered my books and started back to my room very sullen. I couldn't take that anymore! One of the "kids" in the lounge asked me, "What's the matter, old dude?" (I was older than your average college student because I elected to go to Vietnam, and I elected to be a 4 year enlistee, and I elected to be a Ranger, hence the title "Old dude"). I slowly and quietly lost it. These kids only knew me as the dorm rep.(the guy in charge of the dorm. It brought a few extra, and needed bucks) and a fellow student, older, but a fellow student. They never knew I was a Veteran, I never told them , until that moment.
I looked into the eyes of that kid and I said, in my low barritone voice, "I was there"! The room silenced, and I continued, "In my outfit we knew how POWs were treated by the NVA and the Cong. For that reason every man carried 1 .45 cal. round in the breast pocket of his combat fatigues. The intented use of that round was for us, yes us. If all else was lost and you are out of ammo, and the Cong or NVA try to take you alive, you load the round, swallow the barrel of your .45 and do the unthinkable....pull the trigger". I added, "Those poor bastards were taken alive, there won't be much left if we ever get them back"!
As I turned to walk out of the lounge there was no more laughing, and except for the TV in the backgound, there was no noise. I always helped other students with course work, always in the solid sciences and expected little in return (I usually collected my tutoring fees at quarter beer night at Mamma's Pizza joint). I never told another Nam story after that, but they didn't flaunt their anti-war s**t in front of me again. It wasn't tense, it was more comfortable than I had felt since I had started college. They knew my point of view, and they knew that I would not waste time discussing their socialist view of the world. I was there to get the very best education that I could, politics be damned. I had work to do, I had a massive amount of facts to absorb and intern, and I had no time for their rantings about politics. I was a scientist and I had to be the "best that's ever been".
A year or so later, when undergrad Graduation was upon us, I had slowly, and quietly converted some of those same lefties to a more conservative point of thinking. I was even "in bed with the enemy", quite literally. I was involved with a beautiful woman that was the campus "liberal". Proof positive that opposites attract. But that's another story.
It may not be factual that Fonda caused the death of POWs who smuggled messages to her, but in a larger sense it is true that she desired and acted to kill Americans and to support their enemy in war. That was treason, plain and simple.
That's the Hanoi Jane myth, and it will not go away until the last memory of Vietnam has turned to dust.
Thanks for your post about it.
"I am very honored to be a guest in your country, and I loudly condemn the crimes that have been committed by the U.S. government in the name of the American people against your country."
What a traitor!
They've invited me to see "We Were Soldiers" with them a week from tonight. They'll be signing books then in Washington, DC and New York, and those dates will be at the above link.
Jane Fonda bought a ranch an hour south of here in Rowe/Pecos.
To "get away from it all"?
Yet, the authors of her treason indictment are "just a few clicks away".
Karma's a bitch.
