That thought also came to mind for me as well. There was a report on the news that Westerfield moved into the neighborhood in 1996.

I would personally think that any plea agreement would have more to do with any additional crimes against Westerfield and not the Van Dam's. It would be a stretch to think that a 50 year-old man had just decided to become a child molester. The general profile of a pedophile would usually include incidents from earlier in his life.

Maybe, maybe not. Could be that he has long had a propensity toward deviant sex, but not deviant sex with children. Recently, he decided he needed something new. I have known people who have experimented with homosexuality because they laid enough of the opposite sex and wanted something new and over the edge. Sounds like the drug addiction argument, huh?
