-discovered missing the following morning
-entry not locked, security inadequate
-no screams or suspicious sounds heard/reported (victim and 2 others kept quiet with threats, then restrained/gagged)
-crime was planned in advance, not done on impulse

The VD case --

-bold nightime abduction (crept through house to bedroom)
-one parent in house at the time
-child last checked at 10 pm
-parent then retired
-discovered missing the following morning
-entry not locked, security inadequate
-no screams or suspicious sounds heard/reported (presumably Danielle was told and/or made to keep quiet, although this is not yet clear)
-crime had to have been planned, since a cool customer like Westerfield, who is an engineer/inventor, would have been reluctant to stagger through a dark house looking through all the bedrooms for the right one and doing so with no plan for keeping the kid quiet and getting her out quickly.

Thank you for the comparison. For all we know Westerfield planted the rumors about the Van Dam's alleged activities. I am shocked by the overwhelming insinuations in this thread against the parents based on rumors. If you can recall, an innocent man was tried for the bombings at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta based on rumor.

I would think that there would be more conjecture about Westerfield, his background, his lifestyle and his motivations. Just where has he been for the last 50 years of his life, and what has he been doing.
