I am openly admitting that I DO NOT check on my children in their beds after leaving them home with their DADDY. I go out almost every Friday night with gal friends, sometimes to restaurants, movies, big sales, or craft/quilting in the church basement. And I NEVER check on my four babies when I get back, unless my spouse specifically requests that I do, because he thought someone was feverish or whatever. I assume that my husband is a competent, caring father who knows how to tuck his children into bed. We assume that when we tuck them in and close their doors that they are safe for the night.

But... if you found the front door open in the middle of the night, you'd probably check on your babies, right after you closed the door, right? Not that you'd be a bad parent if you didn't, but it would probably be hard to fall asleep until you checked, right?

Yes, I would check if I found a door open. But maybe not, if my judgement was impaired by alcohol.

There were definitely some poor choices made, that 20-20 hindsight will haunt Danielle's parents forever. AND that is the case in the death of any child. BUT that doesn't make the VD's criminally or morally culpable in the death of their daughter.

Being a parent doesn't make one omnicient (although you should let your kids believe this for as long as possible). Those parent's had no way of knowing that evil stalked their neighborhood, waiting for opportunity.

I am not putting any stock into the lifestyle allegations until a verified LE source confirms them.

Especially if one of your children was known to be a sleepwalker, as Danielle was said to be.
