Do you think his station owners are going to risk a multi million dollar libel settlement on something they are not sure of?

I think the lawyers know the that libel is knowingly making false statements with the intent to harm. I think the lawyers are well aware of the fact that journalists have freedom of the press rights to keep sources secret. I think they are well aware that libel is very hard to prove, especially when one claims "secret sources". I think the lawyers know it is very, very difficult to prove intent. I think the lawyers were very comfortable with the law, because it is designed to protect the press, not individuals.

Oh spare me. Station owners do not invite libel suits, where a sympathetic jury could nail them for $100 million, unless they are very sure the source is telling the truth.
