I hate to tell you, but business bandwidth charges subsidize our residential ones. I ran some numbers the last FReepathon and found that if JohnRob's Big Bad FR Server were pumping out its data at a constant rate, it would take 1 T-1 line and a fractional T-1 line working 24/7 and a LOT of patience for the folks on between 6 am EST and midnight PST (can you say 0.002 KB/second download rates?).

Thankfully, the Robinsons purchased the bandwidth capacity and amount to keep us happy (most of the time; no web site can handle a slow Web).

It seems that much of this bandwidth is wasted by duplicate posts.

Would it be possible to implement software which compares the source URL of any attempted new threads with the source URL's of existing threads? It seems the source URL's would be the best comparison because, even after repeated requests that everyone use the actual article title in their postings, many people still insist on starting new threads with their own titles. Wouldn't this significantly decrease the number of duplicate posts?
