When Jim Robinson started Free Republic in September, 1996 to expose the corruption in government and particularly the Clinton Whitehouse, he was alone. Now six years later, Free Republic has 80,000 registered members and who knows how many visit this site often, just to keep up on the latest conservative thinking.
Folks, you all know where this is going, Free Republic is a user supported website and it is time to support it. Four times a year we have this freepathon to donate a few dollars to pay for the bandwidth and expenses necessary to keep Free Republic online, and we do so with gratitude and cheer because of what is offered and accomplished by the existence of Free Republic.
Free Republic does not charge a membership fee or get supported by a government grant. No, people from across the World make donations large and small because they see the value of Free Republic. So if you're one that appreciates this site and want to see it continue, please send in a few dollars to help keep it alive.

By my count, too, Gabz; but don't get discouraged.
Judging by past FReepathon totals, only about one third of all monthlies actually sign up on the list. If that ratio continues to prove true, we should have about 450-500 monthly donors.
We've come a long way. In June 2000, BADJOE posted on the FReepathon that we had only 31 monthly FReepers.
At the end of this FReepathon, he'll let us know how many we have now and I think (hope) you will be pleasantly surprised.
I learned my lesson several FReepathons back. The first one I participated in I wrote the code for each post, not any more. Now, I keep the code on a floppy as opposed to on my hardrive and just use it from FReep to FReep!!!!!

If everyone who was registered donated $1 a month, we'd never have to have a fund raiser. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen. Some people think their $5 or $10 wouldn't make a difference, but it would."

Every penny that is donated is greatly appreciated and helps to pay the bills.
Those who are not in a position right now to donate can still make an important contribution by bumping this thread or pinging others to it."
