I think the reason is duty, and responsibility to pass the word along. Witnessing is a important part of religion. It helps both parties sometimes but it always helps the witness.
BTW, I am not a religious man.(no church for me) I do believe in God. (or a higher power)
I have found this to be comfortable to me. I have been critisized by religious folk,(especially baptists) for being that way and I just ignore them.

Thanks. That was an excellent response. It doesn't much bother me when people come trying to convert me, although it doesn't have much effect, either. But the idea that it does them good is an idea I like. Funny thing, but this week's scripture in a great many denominations will be the story of the Woman at the Well. She's "trailer trash" in some respects, but she is also the first person in John other than John the Baptist and Jesus, himself, to get out and proclaim the message. Whether anyone listened seriously is not clear from the Gospel, but she certainly did testify.
