Before we go off half-cocked (pardon the pun) on Dell, let's give them a chance to make this right. It's quite possible this was the act of some low-level peon busybody who took it upon himself to bring his warped political views into work with him.

If Dell was to terminate this employee and reinstate the order, I would be likely to buy a Dell next time I purchase a computer. If not, well I can just keep on building my own.

I just sent Dell an e-mail. My company, involved in real estate, is often mistaken for a certain marijuana-legalization group (similar acronyms). Seems reasonable to me that they might cancel my next order because of this subjective policy they have based on the business name.

I'll post if they respond.

I agree. Everybody who has gone out of their way to piss off gun owners, from the RATS to Smith & Wesson to K-Mart, has paid a heavy price for being PC. Considering Dell has made no announcement regarding their sales policy, it sounds an awful lot like some unter-liberal on a power trip.

I agree. Seems he gave up awfully quickly before he went on to make an issue out of it. Once he spoke with someone at Dell and had an opportunity to show them that he was a legitimate business, he should have pursued this further to see what kind of response he would get rather than (pun intended) going ballastic because of fauly execution of corporate policy.

I wouldnt be surprised that the same people that were all over pilot training schools for being dumb enough to teach arabs paying cash to steer jumbo jets, are the same people who are now all over Dell on this. I would bet additionally that those most upset with Dell are those that are okay with arab profiling at airports. Assume Dell had good intention for putting up initial roadblock. Comdemn them only when its shown they refuse to sell to legitimate businesses for some political reason.

Agreed... Anyone really think the salesman that cancelled this order actually speaks for all of Dell? - This is a pretty low-level decision. I am not throwing out my Dell for one salesman who is an idiot. Call the man's supervisor and let them know... I need higher-level sin to condemn the company.

This is starting to be a problem. I bought a Dell laptop on E-Bay,and it didn't have the sleeve or cord you need to run a CD ROM or floppy from. I called Dell to order these parts, and everything went fine until it came to the shipping. The dweeb I talked to refused to have it mailed to me,even though I was willing to pay extra. He said it would be FedEx,UPS,or Airborne Express, whoever was "next up" when it was shipped. I then requested Airborne Express, since they leave it at the post office if you aren't home. He wouldn't even guarantee this,or make a note requesting it. All this despite the fact I told him I might be traveling when it got here, and FedEx and UPS would return it if I wasn't here to sign. I finally got frustrated and told him to send it anyway, taking a chance on it coming Airborne Express. It didn't. It came Fed Ex while I was gone, and they sent it back to Dell. I STILL have a bleeping laptop I can't use, thanks to this idiot. Keep in mind that I had already bought 2 brand new Dells from Dell over the last 5-6 years, and had a customer number.

No, no, no. If Dell were to give this guy his computer for FREE to make it right, have the person who canceled the order deliver it in person to the guy's door, with an written apology, and THEN they fired the traitor, then I might consider buying something from them again.

Dell has switched to 70-80% temporary sales staff, as of the middle of January. It's no wonder this is happening. They treat their temporary help very badly.
