To expect long-time growth without end in any nation, or groups of nations is unrealistic, no matter the philosophy in charge at the moment. Prosperity, and its opposite, comes in waves, and sometimes all at once, according to circumstance.

I respectfully disagree, and do feel that civilization is in an unbroken long-term upward trend, albeit with waves along the way, as men evolve.

Be that as it may, we are far far from realizing the current growth potential of our economy, with the huge tax and regulgatory burden we carry from liberal policies. The idea that balancing the budget, rather than reducing that burden, will bring prosperity, is, in my opinion, Democrat big lie propaganda, a tool to improve the image of expansion of big government.
