21 February 2002 DOORN — The entire board of the ISBO, the umbrella organisation for Muslim schools in the Netherlands, resigned today following the release of a Dutch report criticising the group for not doing enough to stem “alarming” Islamic fundamentalism in Muslim schools.
Government to investigate Muslim schools The ISBO came under heavy scrutiny this week after the Dutch television programme NOVA reported that Muslim schools in the Netherlands received financial support from fundamentalist Islamic organisations.
After conducting its own investigation, the Dutch intelligence organisation (BVD) issued a report on Wednesday sharply criticising the ISBO and stating there was an "alarming" fundamentalist influence in 25 percent of Dutch Muslim schools.
The report also said that “Muslim radicals are active” in these schools and, in general, these schools turn their backs on the integration of foreigners into Dutch society.
