RE:"Our tax code is an abomination,"

No, Mr O'Neil, the whole idea of an income/slave tax is an abomination.

Looks like it's time to lobby the Chamber of Commerce to find out if they'll support HR 2525.

Despite all the talk about simplification, the laws have only gotten increasingly complicated over the years as tax credits and other breaks are used in place of direct government spending programs.

It will only get worse.

They always say that. Everytime they "simplify" the tax code, it gets far more complicated. Just look at the deductions that could be taken that are now phased out based on income and other factors. There are too many special interests involved that something truly simple like a flat tax will never happen. As long as government is in the business of redistributing income, the income tax will remain in place to serve that need.

Treasury will release papers illustrating such "absurdities," O'Neill said, and he called on the Chamber of Commerce to lobby Congress to simplify the law.

Simplify??? How bout repeal it and start over:

It is long past time to end the Income Tax once and for all,and support the enactment of the only bills before congress that would actually achieve that.

H.R.2525
SPONSOR: Rep Linder, John (introduced 07/17/2001)
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.
Refer:
http://www.fairtax.org

the modification then enactment and ratification of:

H.J.RES.45
Sponsor: (introduced 4/25/2001)
Latest Major Action: 5/9/2001 Referred to House subcommitte.
Title: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to abolishing personal income, estate, and gift taxes and prohibiting the Untied States Government from engaging in the business in competition with its citizens.

(Modified to prohibit all income, payroll, gift estate taxes as HR2525 calls for, or we will see European VAT style hidden taxes along with payroll excises to take over in the place of the of the current individual income tax(i.e. personal income tax) that Ron Paul amendment prohibits.)

And to keep em reminded that there is indeed a Constitution to pay attention to:

H.R.175
Sponsor: (introduced 1/3/2001)
Latest Major Action: 2/12/2001 Referred to House subcommittee
Title: To require Congress to specify the source of authority under the United States Constitution for the enactment of laws, and for other purposes.

The individual's tax form under the NRSTof HR252 5 amounts to:

Not only does every family receive a FCA based on family size, not income, but they will also receive 100% of their paycheck:

Fedup Smith makes $39K per year...once the FairTax is the law of the land he will receive an instant increase in pay of $200.00 per week. Since he has a family of four, he will receive a FCA of $445 per month, for a total of $1,305.00 additional income per month that he can do with as he sees fit

What SHOULD happen to the tax code and what WILL happen.....well, you know what I mean. I don't think I'll see the tax code completely scrapped in my lifetime and THAT is what SHOULD be done. I will wait to see what Treas. Sec. O'Neill has in mind before I comment further. I HOPE he pushes replacement of the tax code with a system that would be fair but I'm not holding my breath.

"In the coming weeks, we at Treasury will be producing a series of reports on the complexities of the tax code

Oh, goody. We need reports to figure out how complex the tax code is. How can I contain my excitement?

Daschle is so disappointed to hear this. The media is calling it simpleminded, and Carvile is preparing to call it a scheme to enrich the rich and further enslave the poor.

Don't have details???????? Pshaw......what's the details got to do with it!!!

The income tax doesn't apply to most of us. This is just an atempt to get everyone involved since only the sheep involve themselves in the Income Tax. So we'll keep pretending that it does and then come up with a "new" system which is even more regressive.

But O'Neill's remarks Thursday's to the Chamber of Commerce raised the prospect that the administration would soon start a real push for simplification.

Oh, good: they're going to simplify the Federal Paycheck Confiscation program. That should be a real help. Won't change the nature of the beast at all, but some people will think it's a good thing. All of this complaining about the complexity of the tax code is certainly not a good thing: it might actually lead to a tax revolt, and who knows where that might lead? Better that the citizens should be thrown a sop so that they'll be convinced that The Government is actually Doing Something to Make Life Better.

The FairTax (RIP Chief) is the best solution to solve this issue. It gives everyone the right to choose how much they send to the government. People would not need half these tax credits if the government would let them have control of their money. Abolish the income tax and replace it with the FairTax.

Once people realize just how much money gets sent to the govt. and how little we get in return, then we could begin working on cutting programs like welfare and social security....but the public needs to realize just how much they get ripped off first.

Contact the WH and O'Neill....tell them to push for H.R. 2525.

10% sounds simple enough to me.

If it's enough for God it should be plenty for the Federal Government.

O'Neill Promises Simpler Tax System

I'm sick to death of Republican promises. Shi'ite or get off the pot, Pubbies.

They won't do a damn thing about our oppressive taxation; Pubbies are simply The Other Big Government Party. Example: remember the Flat Tax/Sales Tax "roadshow"? What came of that besides pissing away more of our money on fancy travel and lodging expenditures by the (Republican) congressparasites involved?

They haven't even bothered to introduce tax-simplification bills, much less argue hard for the idea.
