What are Jews doing with pigs ? I thought eating pork was prohibited for them too.

Not everyone who lives there is Jewish.
Not every Jew is religious.
And they can use pigs for other reasons, just not for dinner.

The Torah does say that a Jew is not to eat pork, nor touch its DEAD carcass. That would mean that a Jew cannot butcher pork or render it, etc. or perhaps even sell pork products unless they are wrapped carefully beforehand.

But as stated, many Jews do not observe, and it should also be remembered that many Russians and Rumanians, Koreans and Thai, as well as western Christian tourists and monks, etc. live in Israel, any of which could be employed as need be in the pork industry. But I daresay many an IDF member would make an exception in this case...but those who dropped the porkers on the airfield, were in the clear, for the pigs were live when handled by the Jews.

"And they can use pigs for other reasons"

I'm afraid to ask.
