Jobs are no different. I trade my time and labor to my employer because I would rather have the money, and he would rather have the labor.

I'm a little younger than this writer. I remember despising both Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh. Mostly because that was the "acceptable" thing to do. All the celebrities that I tried to emulate said they evil and greedy and hated women. Of course, that was back when the most important thing in my life was to be "cool." (It literally turned my stomach to write the previous sentence.)

Later on, I discovered that following the morality that my parents taught me was actually a nice way to live. I discovered the real truth--you cannot be happy UNLESS you are moral. That pushed me into the "independent" mode.

What really made me wake up was moving from West Texas to Northern New Mexico. There I discovered people physically, loudly protesting what happened to their ancestors five hundred years ago. I saw people complaining that there was no affordable housing yet in the same breath demand people not to build on their own private land because (and I'm not making this up) it will spoil their "view." I saw many families owning land they had bought at a premium and weren't allowed to build on it.

Public works were mired in bureaucracy. A bridge that had broken ground in the 60's was still unbuilt. Protests everywhere, every day by government workers. In other words, a socialist utopia.

We didn't last a year. When my husband was told in a bar, "You Texans are losers! We kicked your ass at the Alamo," that was the last straw. My husband took a 30% pay cut so we could to come back to Texas. Well worth it.

Let us not muddle the water here. The one who is being exploited is a hired hand who say fed the cow/drove the milk truck. It is quite possible that there is no such a person considering the fact that milk is heavily subsidized product produced by family farms. So, milk is a bad example, but I suppose it is clear what I am talking about.

Yes, but your employer meanwhile have means of having you on every turn, and if this simple thruth is unbearable to you, it is time to grow up.

Again, any attempts to "improve" the system would end up in the complete disaster, so the system is "the best possible" indeed and it is pretty fair, however, it is not an "absolutely fair" deal - there is no point in my view to hide our heads in the sand.

Yep. If business is allowed to keep this up the ranks of the poor will only continue to be decimated by the scourges of jobs and prosperity. Sometime this century, under present trends, the entire world will be as rich as America was in 1960.

Get with it, liberals! Time to change those bumper stickers from "Save the Whales" to "Save the Poor". The little black and brown peoples of Africa and Asia must be protected from the evils of souless consumerism (and full bellies, comfortable homes, education for their children...) before it's too late!!
