Mystery death of scientist (Yet another scientist has been killed in mysterious circumstances)
The Times ^ | By Michael Horsnell

DETECTIVES were last night trying to unravel the circumstances in which a leading university research scientist was found dead at his blood-spattered and apparently ransacked home.

The body of Ian Langford, 40, a senior Fellow at the University of East Anglia’s Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment, was discovered on Monday night by police and ambulancemen. The body was naked from the waist down and partly wedged under a chair. It is understood that doors to the terraced house were locked.

A post-mortem examination failed to establish how Dr Langford, who lived alone in the house in Norwich, died.

Dr Langford began working at the university in 1993 after gaining his PhD in childhood leukaemia and infection following a first-class honours degree in environmental sciences. He worked most recently as a senior researcher assessing risk to the environment.

Professor Kerry Turner, director of the centre, said: “We are all very shocked by this appalling news. Ian was without doubt one of Europe’s leading experts on environmental risk, specialising in links between human health and environmental risk. He was known for his work on the effects on health of bathing water and air pollution, for example. He was one of the most brilliant colleagues I have ever had.”

Police are investigating the death of research scientist Ian Langford, 40, a senior fellow at East Anglia University, who was found naked from the waist down and wedged under a chair at his blood-spattered home

Detectives today said that they had ruled out the possibility that a scientist whose body was found at his home died as a result of foul play.

OK, my BS meter is definately registering something. How does a guy accidently wound himself seriously enough to splatter blood everywhere, then wedge his dying half-naked body under a chair? I'm usually not one for conspiracy theories, but when local cops start stretching to avoid the presumption of homicide in so many cases with a strong common thread, something either very sinister is going on, or something very sinister has been thwarted.

Detectives today said that they had ruled out the possibility that a scientist whose body was found at his home died as a result of foul play. Ian Langford, 40, a senior researcher in the field of environmental risk at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, was found dead at his home in Norwich late on Monday. A spokeswoman for Norfolk police today said that following post mortem tests police had decided that Dr Langford's death was not suspicious. It is understood that Dr Langford had wounds on his body.

If I'm ever found dead, half-naked, under a chair, with wounds on my body --I can guarantee it isn't natural.

Hypoxyphilia  -  when someone uses hypoxia (oxygen deprivation to the brain) to achieve sexual excitement. Can result in autoerotic asphyxiation.

He probably tried to loosen the noose (either before or after ejaculation... Wanna start a pool?), fell out of the chair he was standing on, hit his head on the way down, got wedged under the chair, bled like a stuck pig, and then either died from the head injury, from loss of blood, or from asphyxiation.

Or he was whacked by someone and they went to a lot of trouble to make it look like the above scenario.

Ain't life just grand?

"Once is happenstance, twice a coincidence, three times means a "Friend of Bill" is involved ;)

And don't ya know that the mysterious death of Bill's dog fits into all this somehow. Dog's are always messin' around with the worst kinda microbes.....usually bringing them in the house.

Watch Salon.com do a "serious journalism" piece now that Free Republic believes Bill Clinton's dog is behind the deaths of scientists!

Wasn't it Salon who thought all the jokes about the dog dying were serious posts? Liberals have no sense of humor.

If we can figure out WHY, we'll know who. What specific research and study did they all have in common. I'd like to know-I have a daughter working towards her Masters in Microbiology.

Here's an example, fwiw...

http://www.sagazette.com/joanne/jenn_aea.html

The practice apparently started when it was discovered that hanged men sometimes get erections and ejaculate, even after the hangings. This carried over to the thought that by preventing oxygen to the brain, a sense of light-headedness and intoxication will occur, which will heighten the feeling of orgasm. The "normal" way generally consists of a young man stripping naked and standing on a chair or table. He will then tie a noose lightly around his neck (perhaps a belt), lean against it to limit the amount of air flow to his brain, then masturbate. It is believed that many of the accidental deaths caused by autoerotic asphyxiation were due to the man fainting from a lack of oxygen, hence causing him to fall off his ledge and hang himself. According to www.silentvictims.org, between 500 and 1,000 men die of this every year in the United States, and about 30% of all adolescent male hangings are the result of autoerotic asphyxiation.

How would you explain the plane shot down by the Russians coming out of Israel? The Russians did own up to that, didn't they?

DHMO can in fact be deadly stuff - in a gaseous state, it can burn you fatally - in a solid state, it is hard enough to fracture your skull. And as you say, don't drink too much of it...
