I think many of us do. However, "believers" for the most part aren't being properly "educated" by their church leaders; be it pastor, preacher, priest, whatever. The father of all lies takes many forms and manifests himself in many ways. Subtle forms and ways.
I have attended several different denomination churches over the last few years in an attempt to find at least one that is willing to "walk the walk". IMHO, I found none that would truly help its flock identify and confront the liar and "the lie" in today's world. Warm and fuzzies all around, and "feel good" words from the pulpit is about as good as it gets, with an occasional wrath of God thrown in for good measure.
The thing that concerns me the most is that when talking with regular church goers that are genuinely good people, they don't seem to have a clue about the evil one. "Oh, he's out there roaring like a lion", they'll say; "One has to be on guard all the time". Most don't seem to realize he's about to yank the rug right out from under where they stand.
Well, enough of that. The long and short of it is are summed up nicely by Patrick Henry:
"It is natural for man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it."
