Henry Lee: "Something wrong."

I'm very suspicious of 'coincidental' deaths. Especially when the deceased would be a witness for the prosecution.

Smith certainly would have cut a deal to testify against the illegals' license stealing scheme.

Nash testified that Smith had said she was buying from Odtllah the champagne-colored 1992 Acura that crashed early Sunday.

If this is true, I rule out suicide and lean toward a professional hit by either the Dixie Mafia or the Arabs she aided.

Yet another VERY convenient "suicide".
It's just "amazing" how often this happens when they are the only ones that can provide
answers to questions that touch on matters that relate to fed agencies and officials.
Just amazing...

I read the articles you suggested. Very, very interesting. What do you make of it all?

. . .the old exploding cigarette trick?

No, spontaneous vehicular combustion. (Forgive me if this joke was used, I haven't read all the replies yet!) :-)

from the link Shermy cited:

The THP Critical Response Team typically investigates fatal crashes. But what makes this case different is the THP has asked the FBI to step in. "We don't know exactly what we have," says Lieutenant Joe Nunn. The troopers admit they don't usually call the FBI, but "since September 11th, we do a lot of things we didn't used to do," Nunn said.

Investigators are looking at what they're calling a very strange fire. The car in that crash was not damaged very much when it hit the pole. Also, the gas tank and the engine did not catch fire, only the inside was burned.

this is right up there with the best of um! don't miss the video clip Shermy posted above.

I've seen a few car wrecks, and I have never seen one on fire, including a BMW that was folded in half after hitting a tree sideways at about Warp 5. It is passing strange that only the interior should catch fire.

It sounds a little paranoid, but we can reasonably assume Al Quaida has trained people in assasination. Also, if foreign governments' spy agencies are involved, we can also assume a high level of training for those people.

If it's al Qaeda, haven't they just made it much more difficult for them to induce a corrupt official to issue them forged ID?

My hookup is slow, so I didn't look at the video clip. Could someone post some JPEGs?

This is no suicide. Either the woman was killed, placed in the car and and doused with gas, or she and accomplices killed someone else, set up this tableau and flew.

The article sez it hit a telephone pole; any power, signal disruptions occur?

Katherine Smith, a Memphis driver's license examiner who was arrested for selling Tennessee driver's licenses to 5 Middle Eastern men is apparently dead.

I thought she'd been dead for some 15 years now....

"....or am I being too tinfoilly???"

When it concerns these guys, or the Clintons, I don't think it's possible to be "too tinfoilly".
;o)

Two posters (myself one of them) came up with spontaneous human combustion as a possibility but no spontaneous vehicular combustion, you're the first.

It was just a coincidence that one of the Arabs had a tour badge from the WTC on 9-5 and left NYC on 9-11 and sold this woman the car (providing him with access to a duplicate key).

When this is over we'll learn that it was a delayed part of a suicide pact with the scientist to fell/didn't "jump" from the bridge in Tennessee.

How common is it for the interior only to burn completely in a car accident? Could a dropped cigarette do the job that completely? Doesn't seem like an engine fire and the gas tank did not ignite.

The car fires I've driven by in my life did not appear to be fatalities (generally a single vehicle pulled over to the shoulder), some of these starting with the engine on fire.

In my experience as a newspaper photog covering fires since 1970 and as a coroner's investigator for four years, an under hood or dashboard fire is more often the cause of an accident or collision than a fire is likely to result as an aftereffect of a single vehicle collision, though there are exceptions, notably with Pintos, fuel tank ruptures on vehicles with catalytic converters, and Corvettes; and the old Chevy Corvairs with fuel tanks in front of the driver could be spectacular in a head-on.

It's also understandable how the sudden appearance of smoke and flame coming from beneath the dashboard might be a wee bit distracting to a driver, whose chances of then having a collision are predicated as much by the availability of other vehicles with which to collide, failing which something stationary and solid will suffice.

But rather than go to the complication of arranging an accident in which the vehicle or occupant then burns, it's far simpler to arrange an incendiary device that ignites the passenger, the real target, and then *maybe* conceals the evidence with a fire that consumes the vehicle. And some improvised explosive charges, if improperly detonated in a container that ruptures, can result in an intense blaze instead. And I'm sure that the various terrorist organizations are very familiar with both incendiaries and improvised chemical mixtures.

It sure is a strange story, but now that the FBI is on the case, we'll get to the bottom of it. Right? :-(

Interesting. An incindiary device that let out a small amount of toxic gas would quickly incapacitate the driver. Gonna be interesting.

Could a dropped cigarette do the job that completely?

auto interior upholstery & carpets are typically nylon, olefins, or polyester fibers.

a lit cigarette would melt the fibers and then go out rather than ignite in flames.

This is weird... the article Fatal car crash connection has a small banner ad "Are you ready for a new car?" right above the headline to the article!

The photographer Weegee was a pro at catching moments like this (a dead gangster under a movie marquee advertising "The Joy Of Living", a building on fire with a large add that says "Just Add Boiling Water"...)

Also, from one of two video stories I located on that website, there were no skid marks and little damage to the car.
