In 1999 there were a total of 28,874 people who died from firearm injuries. That is 5.7% down from 1998.
Suicide accounted for 57.5% and homicide 37.5%. For those under the age of 19, the rate of death fell by 10.7% when compared to 1998.
They go on to say that for
children under the age of 20, the firearm death rate was 11.7% of the total.
