A friend who once lived there for two years confirmed my sense, that Argentina is getting its comeuppance for many years of unsupportable socialist policies. He said that the labor unions were all-powerful, and the government was totally out of control with leftist spending/vote-buying programs.

Hmmmm - sounds like us under a Dem Congress and President.
