I suspect that robnoel is correct. Much of the world gold comes from SA and it is important to keep the price down for those with exposure. A weaker rand give these SA gold miners the opportunity to expand production and therefore supply. It smacks of desperation. Get yourselves some of the "yellow relic" before it is too late.
