Will McDonough wrote a very long piece a few weeks after Parcells left witnessing a meeting between Parcells
and Kraft a few days after the AFC game where Parcells tried to get Kraft to agree to let him out of contract.
The Clymer.

He has said the greatest moment he has as a coach is when him and his team are being introduced in the Super Bowl.
I saw him at that moment in New Orleans and he looked like a man who had has novacain where off too early.
A great coach would make sure that Desmond Howard would not get anywhere near the ball on kickoffs.

The situation with Parcells in 1997 is a perfect example of why the NFL has a tampering rule. I only wish they enforced it more seriously. When the Jets tampered with Parcells, their only penalty was to give three of their draft picks to New England. Not much different than what might have happened had the teams simply negotiated in the off-season. I say that Parcells should have been made to sit out for two years before coaching the Jets (the time remaining on his Patriots contract) with no pay. That would put a stop to tampering right away. What happened this year in Tampa Bay was inexcusable as well.
