I don't see him as a hero. I see him as a press member who gambled for a story, and lost.In recent weeks, anthrax has been a realistic threat to postal workers. If a mailman gets anthrax and dies, should we praise him and his life for doing his job regardless of the risks he took or should we just say he 'gambled to get out the stupid mail, he should have been a quitter, he knew the risks, he lost, too bad'?

If I were a mailman during the anthrax scare, I'd schedual my vacation. I wouldn't CHOSE to take a chance. I have kids. The mail would have to wait. The welfare checks would be late.
Once the area was declared safe, I'd go back.
