It was job at the WSJ. He went where the WSJ sent him. I'm sure this guy had a family to feed and didn't want to lose his career...tragically, it looks like now he has lost his life. Now, I don't care if the guy was over there for his job or if others are there with the Red Cross or any other reason....if they kidnap and/or kill any American over there or here, the terrorists deserve a death sentence. This guy was a civilian and there is no excuse for what happened to him. The only people whose "fault" it is, are the animals who killed him. That's where the responsibility lies and they should pay the consequences.

We have the freedom of the press. Yes, this man went over there knowing the dangers....he wanted to get the 'story' about the war for you and me, because we live in a country where truth and knowledge and information is tantamount - even if it means risking our lives.

He took his risks just as airline pilots, flight attendents, mail room workers, congressman, office workers and etc. all across America are taking their risks. He is no less a 'hero' for taking those risks against terrorists then any other of the other people I mentioned have been or could be....and deserves no less respect for his decision to take those risks.

Daniel Pearl was there doing his job, a job that he loved. His job is risky and sometimes he has to play both sides of the coin to get a story, but that story was for us, he was/is not disloyal to his country. I have been all over CNN and have heard nothing of his being killed yet, I pray to God not to hear this. Fox is still saying the want 2mil. and the release of their leader in 36hrs. As for who said anything about the "detainees" in CampX. Well, we can all take our pick: 1-International Red Cross 2- Amnesty International 3- Tony Blair (******coward) 4- get this, Rev. Al Sharpton 5- Robert Altman, "our American Flag is a joke" 6- Germany 7- France, and yada, yada, yada. If this man is murdered, they all have blood on their hands, they gave these "submans" a cause to use against him, they never would have known if he had not been betrade. Mom_Grandmother

WE do have the freedom of the press, but evidently a fact lost on you is the fact that our freedom doesnt always extend beyond our borders. sorry, but he is not a hero like the others you mention. defying the state dept warning does not make you a hero, it makes your military's job that much more difficult.
