some of us still are scientist. what I do find alarming is the number of scientist that cannot or will not critically review papers that dovetail with their beliefs.

Those of you who are "still scientists" do not have anything to do with government sponsored research, or you do not have your own political ax to grind. It's a shame that more and more "scientists" are falling into one or both of those categories. The reason some will not review papers that dovetail with their beliefs is the old "if it doesn't benefit me, I don't want to bother" idea. They might use the information but the won't give a "review" the time of day.
