The Constitution, as any man-made law, is only subject to man made interpretation, and literally means what the people---and the nine justices---say it does. If that's the case why bother having one at all? I'm sure any greeting card would do the job...

Because constitutions were not meant to be etched in stone, but to be flexible under certain narrowly defined processes. But you don't get to determine what those processes are, and your vote is only one miniscule part in establishing what they are. That is called "checks and balances."
