What it boils down to for any true conservative, is how we roll back governmental largesse. The Repubs scream that the Libertarians are just helping get Dems elected and that Libertarians can't win a big election (which has been true) because their ideas are not mainstream. The Libertarians scream that electing Repubs just helps continue the cycle of bigger government and that the Repub argument of incremental cutbacks is nonexistent (which is true also).

Realistically/pessimistically, I don't think it can be rolled back. The experiment failed.

** giggle **

It's kind of cute to read these sentiments.

Sorry to be so cynical, but I don't think it's ever going to happen.

I voted for GWB. He's done some good things, done some bad things, and really has yet to promote what I would consider my conservative beliefs. All I can say is that it could be worse... (how sad is that ?)

But I dont think that its hopeless. I believe in the original system, and think we just need to cut-off a lot of the 'for the betterment of society' causes.

There are plenty of people who think it's "unChristian" to believe that the American experiment was tried, undermined, and has failed, because that would be contrary to the virtue of "hope." But of course, that's nonsense.

I am beginning to think that the Pro-Life Movement, and other Christian efforts, should basically quit wasting time on trying to get the Supreme Court changed, etc. The American Experiment in limited government that recognizes inalienable rights has failed. Even as popular and powerful a President as GWB believes he is powerless to challenge the abortion industry, which is the Church of Satan Worship in America. Our task as Christians is to live as Christians in whatever circumstance exists. It is not our task to remain "optimistic" about our country.

"The experiment failed."

Unfortunately, you're probably right. I'm pretty much resigned to simply positioning myself so that me and mine can profit from the denouement.

---I dunno. I've personally suceeded in getting quite a few people to *not* vote for any democrats or republicans, based on asking them to just look honestly at decades of "business as usual" out of both parties. If everyone did that, we could break the back of instituionalised republocrat statism, same as we on the internet are starting to crack the shamestream news monopoly. All it takes is for one person to convince two others, and they in turn two others, and stick to it at the voting booth. I'm proud I don't waste my vote on either evil, I refuse to pick any lesser evil. I've heard the expression 'I voted for such and such but I had to hold my nose to do it." Like, why do that? Makes no sense, and the people who argue you are "wasting your vote" are usually partisan pols who have a party agenda that's above national interest. Not all, generaslizing here, but most do that I have met.

The experiment failed.

It was flawed from the beginning.
It failed over 100 years ago.

"What have you wrought, Mister Franklin?". "A Republic, if you can keep it.", he replied.
