With Conservative Like This, Who Needs Liberals?
Let me start off by addressing those who have been bashing(and I do mean bash) me and other well intentioned and well known Freepers as being anti-Bush, Libertarians, from the reform party or whatever.
I voted for GWB, and I can ping several freepers to this thread that met me in real life at several Bush rallies (with megaphone in hand). I was a member of the Broward County Young Republicans before moving to the West coast of Florida and I was active in Jeb Bush's campaign for Governor.
I've been on this forum for almost 4 years and anyone that knows me is aware of my conservative views and knows that I'm not a member of the reform party, I'm not a Libertarian (large "l") or any of the other things I and others like me have been accused of.
If you have been engaging in inflammatory rhetoric, bashing long-time, well known Freepers or acting like children because not all of us are enthralled with "Georges Big Government Adventure", please try to control yourselves, at least while posting on this thread.
It's not my purpose (at least at this point) to get GWB un-elected, I like him, he has a beautiful wife, he's a good Commander in Chief and he seems like an honest politician. However, if he keeps ignoring conservative principles and promoting a larger more intrusive government, I and others can no longer continue to support him....on principle.
We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
Above is the Free Republic mission statement. After his first year, would anyone say that GWB has worked towards this end? I think many conservatives suffer from some kind of Stockholm Syndrome as a result of 8 years of President Clinton, because when I ask many of them what GWB has done for conservatism lately, all I get is that he's not Clinton.
I know he's not a corrupt, law breaking scoundrel, but is that all that's required? Can our republic survive a cycle where Republicans get into office grow government greatly, interspersed with Democrats who grow government even more greatly with little or no reduction? There are actually people on FR that think all of this growth in government spending is some grandiose 8 year plan by Mr. Bush to fool Democrats so that he can cut government later. What an absurd notion.
If any of the initiatives below originated from the Clinton administration, people on FR would have had a cow. Those "Day in the Life of President Bush" threads garner hundreds of fawning responses, while a thread on how our government is growing out of control will die after 10.
I appeal to anyone reading this to consider the below information without bias. The links will open in a separate window for you convenience. I will be adding to this information as necessary God bless America, God bless this forum and God bless you.
Click on the Picture of the President (thinking of new ways grow government) for the corresponding article.

Huge education spending bill (i.e. Federal Local School Board Bribery Act) which liberal Democrats love that doesn't mention a word about choice or local control. |
|
Food stamps for immigrants. |
|
Largest spending bill in American History. The first to exceed 2 trillion dollars. |
|
The Airport Security Bill that completely takes control of over 28,000 screening jobs. Now it seems that they don't even have to be high school graduates either. The big difference, they can't be fired. |
|
100 million for welfare moms. |
|
Hugely Expanding Clinton's Amercorps boondoggle that all conservatives railed against. |
|
Kowtowing to law breaking illegal immigrants by proposing amnesty. Speaking of illegal immigrants who sneak across the border; "And we've got to respect that, seems like to me, and treat those people with respect," he added. "I remind people all across our country: Family values do not stop at the border." |
. |
38 Billion for a new Homeland Security bureaucracy that allots a 20% increase for border control. Guess what. It goes to our problematic Canadian border, with not a dollar spent on the Mexican border. Read it for yourself |
|
The Orwellian "Patriot Act" that gives Federal authorities carte blanche to rifle through all of your digital communications and essentially, rob your house without notice. |
|
71.5 billion over 10 years for government health care. |
|
Not releasing appropriate documents on Clinton and FBI corruption. |

There are plenty of people who think it's "unChristian" to believe that the American experiment was tried, undermined, and has failed, because that would be contrary to the virtue of "hope." But of course, that's nonsense.
I am beginning to think that the Pro-Life Movement, and other Christian efforts, should basically quit wasting time on trying to get the Supreme Court changed, etc. The American Experiment in limited government that recognizes inalienable rights has failed. Even as popular and powerful a President as GWB believes he is powerless to challenge the abortion industry, which is the Church of Satan Worship in America. Our task as Christians is to live as Christians in whatever circumstance exists. It is not our task to remain "optimistic" about our country.

I completely agree. I have absolutely Hadenuf of the two beltway parties. I too was a Republican a few years back, only to be repeatedly kick in the teeth. No more of this BS for me Well surmising from your replies that I have read since last summer on FR(anti-immigrant, blaming the electric companies for the california power crisis), I think your "perfect" candidate would be Pat Buchanan, IMHO.
Maybe you can "draft" him for 2004.

I voted for GWB too..I have freeped Clinton..Heck I was a conservative before most of these conservatives were born (I voted for Goldwater)
I just want to say I think GWB is a nice and funny and honest moderate/liberal..he is like his dad no friend of conservatives or small government.
My major concern on FR is that there is no longer a watch dog..
WHO is watching the store guys? "Bad stuff "was unlikely to happen when the liar in chief was president because people like us were watching.....no more...we get pictures of rainbows over his heard and oooossssss and ahhhhhhhhsssss ..like silly school girls.
I am scared to death for my country..but there are not many here at FR that are anymore...

I love statements like this. There's a dreamer born every minute. NEWS FLASH: This is a Two Party System. It always has been, it always will be. Third parties are irrelevant, and only siphon votes away from the main party that most closely aligns with them ideologically, thus helping into power the very group that you'd wish wasn't in power! Ask a Nader voter! Once again, take a Reality Pill, and stop dreaming. Get your head out of the clouds, recognize that this is the real world, and unlike Burger King, you can't have it your way. Just vote for the best party that actually has a chance in hell of winning.

Take off the blinders, and realize that everyone wants smaller Government, and so does George W. Bush.
Right, that is why his family strives so hard to control the government, to make it smaller. Face it, we the people have allowed an elite group of people to consolidate, in the form of the US government, the greatest institution of plunder ever. The kind of man who seeks, and is able to rise to the top in the merciless competition to be the most powerful man on Earth is not the kind of man who thinks himself no better then the people he rules. The kind of man who rises to the top imagines himself ordained to ride booted and spured above humanity.

Frankly I think your post was right factually, but wrong realistically.Huh?
You seem to think he can just stroll in and start slashing things left and right, carving up Big Government like a thanksgiving turkey. Wrong. It won't happen, not today, and not ever.
Not only has he not done that, he's going the wrong way. A person in Chicago can't get to New Orleans by incrementally going north.
To: Dane
blaming the electric companies for the california power crisis). Huh? You are mistaken. I never blamed the electric companies for anything. The only thing I did state was that I felt there was a hell a lot of greed going on. Check out the archives Dane. And read them carefully. And next time get your facts straight before you go public.

RE: your post #162
BRAVO, well said!!
Now I'm feeling sick to my stomach from this thread and a few others here today. So I'm out of here.
I honestly think some people won't be happy until the Democrats have the Whitehouse, AND House to go WITH holding the SENATE!! Maybe that will FINALLY make some here happy!!
FRegards friend.

Not only has he not done that, he's going the wrong way
Actually, he has cut back Government in certain respects. See "Southack"'s post for a list of instances. Your problem is that, like all the libertarians, he isn't going in with a chainsaw and carving down Government to the raw bone. I'm sorry, but when I want a rational, down to earth, realistic analysis of political issues and current political trends, I do not look to the libertarians. You guys are dreamers. You've got some great ideas, you just have absolutely NO idea how to get them into practice. Then you burn yourselves with drugs and prostitution. Sitting on the sidelines and crying is not going to change anything, and until you realize that the LP is a big fat joke, you will remain a bench player, uneffective, irrelevant, and impotent.

I was stuck in a situation where I could see the SOTU speech but, couldn't hear it. Every time I looked up at the TV, I saw Bush flapping his jaws & every Democrap in the house jumping up to cheer. I'm glad I didn't get to hear it...
To: AAABEST
I didn't even vote for Bush. These are the things he campaigned on, so why should anyone have expected anything else?

Judge GWB after he has served eight years. Those charges haven't been proved and he hasn't been convicted, our royals serve no time and pay no penalty.

"Our Gaurdsmen and women ARE citizen soldiers" Not true... their paychecks are from the US treasury... that make them a federal "standing army".
To: AAABEST
Points well made and well taken. I've considered the same issues recently.
But as things go, I'll still support Bush for now... well I'll support him over some idiotic liberal anyday.

"Bravo! But you left out his federalizing of the Churches (Faith-Based Initiative) and federalizing of state and local Law Enforcement (Project Safe Neighborhoods). There is nothing conservative (or constitutional) about Pres. Bush."Oh come on your stretching it a bit now aren't you. Geesh!!!
