George Bush's Big Government Adventure

With Conservative Like This, Who Needs Liberals?

Let me start off by addressing those who have been bashing(and I do mean bash) me and other well intentioned and well known Freepers as being anti-Bush, Libertarians, from the reform party or whatever.

I voted for GWB, and I can ping several freepers to this thread that met me in real life at several Bush rallies (with megaphone in hand). I was a member of the Broward County Young Republicans before moving to the West coast of Florida and I was active in Jeb Bush's campaign for Governor.

I've been on this forum for almost 4 years and anyone that knows me is aware of my conservative views and knows that I'm not a member of the reform party, I'm not a Libertarian (large "l") or any of the other things I and others like me have been accused of.

If you have been engaging in inflammatory rhetoric, bashing long-time, well known Freepers or acting like children because not all of us are enthralled with "Georges Big Government Adventure",  please try to control yourselves, at least while posting on this thread.

It's not my purpose (at least at this point) to get GWB un-elected, I like him, he has a beautiful wife, he's a good Commander in Chief and he seems like an honest politician. However,  if he keeps ignoring conservative principles and promoting a larger more intrusive government, I and others can no longer continue to support him....on principle.

We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.

Above is the Free Republic mission statement.  After his first year, would anyone say that GWB has worked towards this end? I think many conservatives suffer from some kind of Stockholm Syndrome as a result of 8 years of President Clinton, because when I ask many of them what GWB has done for conservatism lately, all I get is that he's not Clinton.

I know he's not a corrupt, law breaking scoundrel, but is that all that's required? Can our republic survive a cycle where Republicans get into office grow government greatly, interspersed with Democrats who grow government even more greatly with little or no reduction? There are actually people on FR that think all of this growth in government spending is some grandiose 8 year plan by Mr. Bush to fool Democrats so that he can cut government later. What an absurd notion.

If any of the initiatives below originated from the Clinton administration, people on FR would have had a cow. Those "Day in the Life of President Bush" threads garner hundreds of fawning responses, while a thread on how our government is growing out of control will die after 10.

I appeal to anyone reading this to consider the below information without bias. The links will open in a separate window for you convenience.  I will be adding to this information as necessary God bless America, God bless this forum and God bless you.

Click on the Picture of the President (thinking of new ways grow government) for the corresponding article.

Huge education spending bill (i.e. Federal Local School Board Bribery Act) which liberal Democrats love that doesn't mention a word about choice or local control.
Food stamps for immigrants.
Largest spending bill in American History. The first to exceed 2 trillion dollars.
The Airport Security Bill that completely takes control of over 28,000 screening jobs. Now it seems that they don't even have to be high school graduates either. The big difference, they can't be fired.
100 million for welfare moms.
Hugely Expanding Clinton's Amercorps boondoggle that all conservatives railed against.
Kowtowing to law breaking illegal immigrants by proposing amnesty. Speaking of illegal immigrants who sneak across the border; "And we've got to respect that, seems like to me, and treat those people with respect," he added. "I remind people all across our country: Family values do not stop at the border."
. 38 Billion for a new Homeland Security bureaucracy that allots a 20% increase for border control. Guess what. It goes to our problematic Canadian border, with not a dollar spent on the Mexican border. Read it for yourself
The  Orwellian "Patriot Act" that gives Federal authorities carte blanche to rifle through all of your digital communications and essentially,  rob your house without notice.
71.5 billion over 10 years for government health care.
Not releasing appropriate documents on Clinton and FBI corruption.

Yeah, service tied to the GOVERNMENT!!! NOT what he implied when he was running. Listen to his inaugural address. He exhorted the people to get involved in their communities. This was supposed to come FROM the people, from their ingenuity, NOT directed by a centralized government. YOU think!!!

Too dangerous. There is no way that I would want Gore elected. The country might not have survived. And, I've got a feeling we'll be facing Hillary in the not too distant future.

I agree with you. His speech sound so illuminist, so nazi, so globalist, and so NWO it ain't funny. Parts of his speech sound as if Daddy Bush wrote it.

Perot took a shot, but got lost under the hood.

Perot stood a good chance until he started to act a tad looney. I still respect the man for what he does for hostages and Vets.. but I don't want him for my President.

Bucahnan tried parades, but the pitchfork brigade's torches flamed out.

He also started to act a tad whacked out. But I agree with the issues he is trying to bring to the surface of late. Of how things are changing rapidly with "WHO" the minorities are fast becoming.. but more importantly about immigration policies, and the FLOOD of illegal immigrants to our Country. But there are a ton of other Positions he holds, that I just can't endorse.

Again.. I like "some" of his positions..but not all.. not enough to want him as President. He would be a loose cannon IMHO, and I doubt he could EVER win!! In fact I'm willing to wager on it..as I know we would never vote for him for President and obviously from the last race we aren't alone. I do want him out there talking.. because he brings to the forefront some imperative and important issues. I like that about him.

Keyes is trying to re-introduce the people to God, but is gonna need an awful lot of prayer with this hopeless populace.

Keyes also acted kind of like a Hotheaded. He lost control during the debates. SHOUTED out people. Not good. We LOVE Keyes,..but think he will grow in his "public appearance" capabilities, and may still be a great candidate in the future.

Guess the people are not interested in revolution, restoration or resurrection.

I disagree (respectfully). We just need a Candidate who does it right. I'm not so sure President Bush isn't that person. Not yet anyway. I think he could just pull off the best ever way of doing Politics we've ever seen a President do in history. I'm sure willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

What's next?

Well,.. call me the "Eternal Optomist"... but I happen to think the best is yet to come. And if I'm wrong.. I'll even admit it.

FRegards Jim, Mary Ann

I am dissappointed in a few things..like the welfare expansion when we just finally got some of it reduced .....the expansion of food stamps, the expansion of 15 weeks of unemployment for people to continue to sit on their butts, the border patrol that doesn't mention FLorida, California or Mexico, the Amnesty to criminals and the new federal security jobs in the airports to give more people an excuse to maintain the lowest common denominator of work load without worry of being fired. Other than that I love the guy.:{

You have a choice he said and in fact you don't have to do anything at all if you don;t want to.

Local Volunteer Agencies Rekindle Civic Spirit

On Tuesday night, President George Bush urged every American to commit at least two years over the rest of their lives to the service of their neighbors and the nation. San Diego service agencies said that they have seen a surge in interest to volunteer, 10News reported.

"We felt a sense of urgency to help people. After Sept. 11, people wanted to do something," said Christy Langan from Volunteer San Diego.

Volunteer San Diego connects people with 900 charitable organizations that need help locally.

"There's so much need here in San Diego, we can help them figure out what's best for them," Langan said.

Without volunteers, some non-profits would not be able to help others. Half of the San Diego Food Bank's workforce is volunteer, according to 10News. Josephine Cooper, 84, has been volunteering at the Food Bank for more than two decades.

"There's so much work to do -- altogether we can do it. Altogether we can help each other," Cooper said.

There are volunteer opportunities of all kinds in San Diego County. Visit VolunteerSanDiego.org, NeighborhoodHouse.org or call (800) VOLUNTEER for more information.

Full on raging socialism? Actually, I think if we look at what socialism was considered to be 100 years ago we are way past that definition. It is only because some countries have further refined the misery of socialism that we can say we are not that brand. But we are surely a socialist nation when half my productivity is seized each year.

As for voting. Abstinance seems to be a good policy. I can at the very least always refuse my consent. That a gun barrel will determine most decisions in my future is a given, but I will not give to my masters my approval.

No you are not wrong. Something must be done. But there is no magic solution that I can see and there is no one man who can make it happen. And despite Browne's claims to the contrary, it will take more than a morning's worth of pen scratching to wipe out a century's worth of socialist expansion. It will require firing up huge masses of people and lighting a fire under our congress. Perot took a shot, but got lost under the hood. Bucahnan tried parades, but the pitchfork brigade's torches flamed out. Keyes is trying to re-introduce the people to God, but is gonna need an awful lot of prayer with this hopeless populace. Guess the people are not interested in revolution, restoration or resurrection. What's next? How do you reach a population that has been brainwashed by socialist propaganda? How do you reverse the damage done to three generations of citizens?

Cultural Secession.

One of the "problems" with the Conservative Political Movement is that it is just that... predominantly political. Conservatism must become more broadly sociological in its pursuit of ultimate victory.

All Conservatives should hereafter commit themselves to subject not a single one of their Children to the Marxist-indoctrination warehouses of the Government Schools. Conservative Children should only be educated in the Home, the Church, and the Private School. Try to get our money back through Tax Credits and Vouchers if we can, but make the foregoing goal the paramount one.

Meanwhile, accept the fact that reversing Roe v. Wade and the "homosexual agenda" just ain't likely, given current demographics. Noble, yes; Right, yes; Likely, no. So give the Leftward Half of the Country over to the Reprobation they are so adamantly intent upon. Let them cut off their own lines from the earth, with their abortion and their homosexuality. Just take our own children out of the cauldron.

Repeat for three generations.

For what it's worth I largely agree with you. Though, I have to say if he keeps cutting taxes and keeps spending in line with the revenues, I don't care if he gives it all to welfare moms, as long as the country is defended. Isn't that after all the first priority of government?

If he gets a republican Senate, he may actually get something meaningful done.

Which is why Jeffords had to resign. The fraud of the party would have been exposed when holding the House, Senate, and White House led to the same ol tyranny. I know, I know, one day they'll get it straight.

Don't know how to discover the total number of users, but to find out your user number, go to your profile page, right click, pick "properties", and the last digits in the "Address(URL)" line is your user number. Works for everybody else's profile, also.
